Mannitol is required for stress tolerance in Aspergillus niger conidiospores.
D-Mannitol is the predominant carbon compound in conidiospores of the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger and makes up 10 to 15% of the dry weight. A number of physiological functions have been ascribed to mannitol, including serving as a reserve carbon source, as an antioxidant, and to store reducing power. In this study, we cloned and characterized the A. niger mpdA gene, which encodes manni...
متن کاملUnique regulatory mechanism for D-galactose utilization in Aspergillus nidulans.
This study describes two novel regulators, GalX and GalR, that control d-galactose utilization in Aspergillus nidulans. This system is unique for A. nidulans since no GalR homologs were found in other ascomycetes. GalR shares significant sequence identity with the arabinanolytic and xylanolytic regulators AraR and XlnR, but GalX is more distantly related.
متن کاملShotgun proteomics of Aspergillus niger microsomes upon D-xylose induction.
Protein secretion plays an eminent role in cell maintenance and adaptation to the extracellular environment of microorganisms. Although protein secretion is an extremely efficient process in filamentous fungi, the mechanisms underlying protein secretion have remained largely uncharacterized in these organisms. In this study, we analyzed the effects of the d-xylose induction of cellulase and hem...
متن کاملGlycosidases of Aspergillus niger
A highly purified preparation of 1,2-oc-L-fucosidase, free of /3-galactosidase and P-N-acetylglucosaminidase activities, has been obtained from a commercial preparation of Aspergillus niger by a simple isolation procedure involving ammonium sulfate precipitation, pressure dialysis, repeated gel Cltration on Sephadex G-150, and chromatography on diethylaminoethyl Sephadex A-50. The enzyme has a ...
متن کاملProteomic Analysis of the Secretory Response of Aspergillus niger to D-Maltose and D-Xylose
Fungi utilize polysaccharide substrates through extracellular digestion catalyzed by secreted enzymes. Thus far, protein secretion by the filamentous fungus Aspergillus niger has mainly been studied at the level of individual proteins and by genome and transcriptome analyses. To extend these studies, a complementary proteomics approach was applied with the aim to investigate the changes in secr...
